JOURNAL PROMPT- How I express myself artistically…
In order to express yourself creatively, I don’t think you have to be great at any sort of art. It’s what you feel and what you think. If you love to do something, you shouldn’t be labelled by how good you are. And just because you are good at something doesn’t mean you have to follow it. Do what you think is right.
You can express yourself artistically in many different ways such as dance, music, writing, drama, and of course there is art. But to do these things, there isn’t just expressing yourself, there are rules you must follow in order to create...art. For example, in dance, you have to remember a certain choreography. In music you have to understand the notes you need to play in a song on an instrument. When you’re writing something like poetry, you have to follow the rules of the form of poetry you are using. In drama, you have to memorize your lines in each scene. And in art, you follow rules of shading to identify the darks and the lights of your drawing.
To me, I think that my strongest form of The Arts is...art itself. Creating drawings and paintings haven’t always been a challenge for me and there are also times where art gets me super frustrated. To be honest, I don’t understand how you express yourself artistically. It may sound nice to be able to put your thoughts and feelings into one picture that says a thousand words, but I don’t think I’ve ever “expressed” myself through out art. I just don’t get how you can say so many things out of drawings and sculptures and paintings and doodling. I’ve seen many people say things where they poured their hearts out into their art, but is it necessary to express yourself in art?
Expression-the process of making known one's thoughts or feelings.
Yeah… it must be pretty great to be able to do that with one piece of art. I almost always hate when we do “What do you see?” journal topics because there are so many things that the art may say, but you can’t see it because it is hidden. And I don’t know if it’s the same for me. I don’t know if this makes sense to you, but it may be so hidden, that even I can’t find it. I create art when I’m bored at home and I have good pieces of art, and I have horrible pieces. I draw what I want to and I paint when want to. I create things that will eventually be forgotten by me. I draw something and I rip it into pieces when I’m stressed because I hate it. I don’t put my art on the walls of my room. I keep my art safe where nobody can see it. And I create art for myself, and only myself.
Therefore, how do I express myself through out art? I usually just don’t.
