This is a very beautiful piece of art that to me, looks like a mixture of two styles of painting techniques, Impressionism and painterly. Impressionism is a type of style that will use many types of vibrant colours that make the painting pop out or stand out. These paintings usually try to capture nature or a scene that is outdoors. Impressionism is all about trying to create a picture that does not look real but it would look real if you saw the painting at first glance. Painterly is all about brush technique. It's supposed to look a lot like realism (a painting that is supposed to be realistic) except it is different because painterly focuses on texture. It wants to show the brush strokes, the rough areas, the smooth areas and it gives the painting a different appearance.
Now, let's get on to reviewing this piece of art.
1) PURPOSE OF THE EXHIBITION
This art piece is supposed to capture the the scene of two people walking through the park or an ally way on a rainy day. And you could tell it's a rainy day because firstly, the person is holding an umbrella and secondly, you can't see your reflection through concrete, but you can see your reflection through water and so that water may be formed with the raindrops that fell from the sky. Also this painting stands out because everything sort of fades about into a light blue smooth textured background with small hints of pink, green and yellow. And this makes the foreground stand out because nothing in this painting is smooth or the same shade of the same colour. The painting is very bright, especially the lights because it's a completely different colour and that's what makes it stand out the most. This painting is very different from the other pieces of art because this is a normal painting, while the others are sculpted or painted on to a building. It isn't as creative as the other art pieces because you can find any painting in any museum. You will rarely find a realistic painting on a building wall, or a sculpture that is sculpted with such detail.
2) THINGS I LIKED
-As I mentioned earlier, I really think that the lights stand out a lot because of their colour and how simple it may look, but there is so much detail in going from a solid light yellow, to a faint orange.
-I also liked the background fading away technique. Most people pay attention to the foreground very often, but I really like the background because everything almost faded away and that's what made the foreground with the trees stand out, even if the trees didn't have much of a purpose in painting.
-Finally, I like how the two people are so unclear because even though at first glance, it would look like the painting is supposed to be about two people walking through the park but, the painter wanted to actually capture the beauty of nature.
3) WHY IT CAUGHT MY ATTENTION
I personally actually like drawing and painting more than sculpting or crafting because I find it much easier and I like it because drawing and painting is easy to fix...because well, I make some of the most horrendous mistakes when "creating art." In this painting, there is no solid colour in this painting. It's a very colourful, yet dull painting because everything is so blurry. And it is not something that would easily catch your attention, which is why I liked it. There are so many details but they're so hard to see. For example, the walkway keeps on going on even if it's fading out, you could still see it if you pay attention to it.
4) IN MY OPINION...
I like this painters art work because he/she paid attention to so much detail and I know that I cannot create art work like this, or even the other options that we had, so I know that I can't put hate on something that might have taken so much time which is something that I can't do. And if I saw this artwork in person, then it would be something even more amazing because I would actually be able to see the brush strokes clearly, I'd be able to see the technique, the layers of paint and the hard work. Even though we may see a lot of magnificent painting that followed the techniques of realism, Impressionism, photo realism, and abstract, I think that this painting is amazing.
JOURNAL PROMPT- How I express myself artistically…
In order to express yourself creatively, I don’t think you have to be great at any sort of art. It’s what you feel and what you think. If you love to do something, you shouldn’t be labelled by how good you are. And just because you are good at something doesn’t mean you have to follow it. Do what you think is right.
You can express yourself artistically in many different ways such as dance, music, writing, drama, and of course there is art. But to do these things, there isn’t just expressing yourself, there are rules you must follow in order to create...art. For example, in dance, you have to remember a certain choreography. In music you have to understand the notes you need to play in a song on an instrument. When you’re writing something like poetry, you have to follow the rules of the form of poetry you are using. In drama, you have to memorize your lines in each scene. And in art, you follow rules of shading to identify the darks and the lights of your drawing.
To me, I think that my strongest form of The Arts is...art itself. Creating drawings and paintings haven’t always been a challenge for me and there are also times where art gets me super frustrated. To be honest, I don’t understand how you express yourself artistically. It may sound nice to be able to put your thoughts and feelings into one picture that says a thousand words, but I don’t think I’ve ever “expressed” myself through out art. I just don’t get how you can say so many things out of drawings and sculptures and paintings and doodling. I’ve seen many people say things where they poured their hearts out into their art, but is it necessary to express yourself in art?
Expression-the process of making known one's thoughts or feelings.
Yeah… it must be pretty great to be able to do that with one piece of art. I almost always hate when we do “What do you see?” journal topics because there are so many things that the art may say, but you can’t see it because it is hidden. And I don’t know if it’s the same for me. I don’t know if this makes sense to you, but it may be so hidden, that even I can’t find it. I create art when I’m bored at home and I have good pieces of art, and I have horrible pieces. I draw what I want to and I paint when want to. I create things that will eventually be forgotten by me. I draw something and I rip it into pieces when I’m stressed because I hate it. I don’t put my art on the walls of my room. I keep my art safe where nobody can see it. And I create art for myself, and only myself.
Therefore, how do I express myself through out art? I usually just don’t.
My final answer is no, because there are four different possible answers and when there are possibilities, there isn't an exact count. (There is a longer explanation in the photo.)
